Wild Zoo Camp, learn about our amazing animals and how to care for them.

Join us this August and become a keeper in training here at Call of the Wild Zoo. We have lots of exciting activities for the kids this summer. Our incredible 1-day Wild Camp is perfect for young animal lovers and conservationists of the future. For children aged between 8-15

Camp Day at the Zoo Itinerary:

Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Age Group: 8-15
Theme: Exploring Wildlife Care and Conservation
Location: Zoo Education Centre

10:00 AM - 10:15 AM: Welcome and Icebreaker

  • Campers gather at the Education Centre for a warm welcome and introduction to the day's activities.
  • Campers receive exclusive camp T-shirts as a memento (can be worn throughout the day).
  • Icebreaker activities to help campers get to know each other and the camp counsellor.

10:15 AM - 11:00 AM: Classroom Session - Understanding Animal Care

  • Introduction to the importance of animal care and conservation.
  • Interactive presentation on the specific needs and care routines of zoo animals.
  • Focus on a particular species (e.g., ring-tailed lemurs) - learning about their habitat, diet, and behaviours.

11:00 AM - 11:45 AM: Hands-on Activity - Feeding Time!

  • Campers assist in preparing the specialized diet for a chosen animal species (e.g., ring-tailed lemurs).
  • Guided tour to the animal enclosure where campers get to observe and participate in feeding the animals.

11:45 AM - 12:30 PM: Practical Session - Cleanliness is Key

  • Discussion on the importance of maintaining clean and healthy animal enclosures.
  • Hands-on experience where campers help clean an animal enclosure under supervision.
  • Learning about the significance of cleanliness in promoting animal well-being and preventing diseases.

12:30 PM - 1:15 PM: Lunch Break and Group Activity

  • Campers enjoy a packed lunch (to be brought from home or campers are able to buy lunch from Snack Shack).
  • Group activity focused on wildlife conservation or a related theme, fostering teamwork and creativity.

1:15 PM - 1:45 PM: Enrichment Workshop/Enclosure design

  • Interactive workshop on animal enrichment - understanding why it's essential for the mental and physical health of zoo animals.
  • Campers engage in creating enrichment items (e.g., puzzle feeders, toys) suitable for the chosen animal species.

1:45 PM - 2:00 PM: Conclusion and Certificate Ceremony

  • Recap of the day's activities and key learnings.
  • Campers receive 'Keeper in Training' certificates.
  • Farewell and departure with newfound knowledge and appreciation for wildlife conservation.

Throughout the day, campers will also receive worksheets and materials to reinforce learning and encourage reflection on their experiences. The program aims to inspire a lifelong passion for wildlife care and conservation among young participants, empowering them to become stewards of the natural world.

Things participants need to bring:

  • Wear multiple layers and bring a raincoat.
  • Bring a packed lunch and water bottle.
  • Wear closed toe shoes.
